Mission and Vision Statements

Mission:

The mission of the College of Health Sciences is to educate and prepare engaged, culturally competent, and strategically astute health professionals who will serve as scholars, thought leaders, advocates, and activists in their respective fields.

Vision:

The vision of the College of Health Sciences is to address the health needs of the community, the nation, and the world by focusing on the education and preparation of students while maintaining clear linkage to and immersion in community health and policy initiatives.

Program Overview

The College of Health Sciences is committed to forging a bold path to health. The College consists of the following departments: 

1) Department of Aging Studies 

2) Department of Counseling  

3) Department of Public Health and Health Equity 

4) Department of Rehabilitation Services.  

Currently, five degree programs and three minors are offered by the College of Health Sciences.  The College also houses two institutes: the Healthy Aging Institute and the Determinants of Health Institute.   In addition, the College is home to the Wildcat Health Professions Academy - a pre-professional health science student group which provides programming, experiences, and opportunities for internships to help our students prepare to enter employment or graduate/professional school in their field of choice.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet the admission requirements of Bethune-Cookman University as described in the Admissions and Enrollment Services  section of this catalog and then any listed requirements in the specific department.

Program Objectives

The goals of the College are as follow and align with the goals of the University.  These goals are infused into our academic and support programs/activities:

Student Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to:

1. Uphold and model the core values of Bethune-Cookman University. These values are faith, integrity, respect, service, and thirst for knowledge.

2. Apply the principles of ethics to interactions with others, care of patients and clients, academic pursuit, research endeavors and expression of thought.

3. Display and model professionalism in all of their career, community, personal and institutional relationships. Engage in inter-professional and interdisciplinary endeavors to strengthen and augment your knowledge, skill, and attitudes.

4. Demonstrate competence at the highest level (excellence) in your chosen health profession, academic studies, community service, clinical and field experiences, and public speaking.

5. Represent Bethune-Cookman University positively in all of their internship/practicum, clinical rotation, employment, and community interactions.

Graduation Requirements

All students are encouraged to earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher for all courses required to complete their program. However, for course credit toward graduation in a major area, students must earn at least a “C” grade. A minor shall consist of 18 Semester Hours, and the grade “C” (2.0) or better for all classes taken toward the minor must be earned. A student must complete a minimum of six credits of coursework exclusive to the minor.
