Mission and Vision Statements

Mission:

The mission of the Department of Accounting and Finance at Bethune-Cookman University is to educate future global business leaders in the fields of accounting and finance.

Vision:

It is the vision of the Department of Accounting and Finance at Bethune-Cookman University to provide an excellent and relevant accounting education to accounting students and relevant financial education to finance students.  These students will then succeed economically and socially in Florida, the United States and throughout the world.

Program Overview:

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Finance.

Admission Requirements

Students must have a 2.8 GPA or higher after at least 30 hours of college-level course work to declare as an accounting major or a finance major.

If a student receives a total of 3 Ds or Fs in upper-level School of Entrepreneurship & Business courses they will be removed from the accounting program or the finance program.

Program Description:

The Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting is a four-year program that provides an excellent foundation in accounting and business. Its conceptual focus is designed to prepare students for success in a constantly evolving business environment and to also prepare students for graduate studies. Today’s global business environment brings new opportunities and challenges to the accounting profession. New business reporting models, international financial reporting standards, financial disclosure, corporate governance, fraud prevention, and government regulations are all shaping the future of the profession. Education Outcomes:

Accounting:

  1. Prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  2. Apply U.S. tax laws in preparing income tax returns.
  3. Apply cost accounting concepts for management decision making.
  4. Apply and communicate auditing procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
  5. Create financial reports using accounting and business software.
  6. Articulate knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the professional accountant in a global society.

Finance:

  1. Apply financial principles in passing the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam.
  2. Predict future prices while managing a portfolio of funds in real-time.
  3. Articulate knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the finance professional in a global society.
