The Teacher Education Program’s commitment is to provide a student-centered environment where teacher candidates experience the freedom to become advocates for educational causes and effective professional educational justice leaders.  Reflected in this mission is the belief that effective educators will be competent, caring, and committed to providing quality instruction to all learners.   Program OverviewThe Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education is designed for students who plan to teach in grades K-6. AdmissionStudents seeking admission into a major program in the Department of Elementary Education must meet the admission requirements of Bethune-Cookman University as described in the Admission section of this catalog. Educational OutcomesStudent Learning OutcomesStudents who desire to earn a degree in education and who seek to receive a teaching certificate in Elementary Education K-12/ESOL Endorsement offered at Bethune-Cookman University will demonstrate mastery of the Florida Education Accomplished Practices as measured by a passing score on the Professional Florida Teacher Certification Exam.  Students who desire to earn a degree in education and who seek to receive a teaching certificate in Elementary Education K-12/ESOL Endorsement offered at Bethune-Cookman University will demonstrate mastery of Elementary Education K-12/ESOL Endorsement subject area competencies as measured by a passing score on the Elementary Education Subject Area Florida Teacher Certification Exam. Students who desire to earn a degree in education and who seek to receive a teaching certificate in Elementary Education K-12/ESOL Endorsement offered at Bethune-Cookman University will demonstrate mastery of the Teacher Dispositions as measured by a comprehensive score of basic from the senior internship Teacher Candidate Dispositions Ratings Form triangulated by the University Supervisor, Cooperating Teacher, and Self-evaluation.
