Mission and Vision Statements

Mission:

The mission of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences is to achieve wellness in diverse communities through education, community engagement, research, and professional preparation.  Collaborative efforts among the units housed under the CoNHS umbrella will assist in the elimination of health disparities, while promoting health equity among local, regional and global communities.

Vision:

The vision of the College of Health Sciences is to empower, engage, and educate health professionals who will lead their fields to best serve the health and well-being of a global community.  In doing so, citizens will be encouraged to advocate for opportunities to improve their quality of life.  This is congruent with the mission of Bethune-Cookman University which provides a “faith-based environment of academic excellence and transformative experiences that educates and empowers people to seek their own solutions, to advocate for opportunities for all citizens to improve their quality of life; and to inculcate an international perspective that would facilitate a keen appreciation of new global realities.”

Program Overview

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is committed to forging a bold path to health. The College consists of the following Schools and Departments:

 

School of Health Sciences:

1) Department of Gerontology

2) Department of Counseling  

3) Department of Psychology

4) Department of Rehabilitation Services

 

School of Nursing:

  • Master of Science in Nursing - Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

  • Practical Nursing Certificate

  • Nursing Assistant Certificate

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet the admission requirements of Bethune-Cookman University as described in the Admissions and Enrollment Services section of this catalog and then any listed requirements in the specific department. Admission requirements differ according to each program.

Educational Outcomes

The goals of the College are as follows and align with the goals of the University.  These goals are infused into our academic and support programs/activities:

 

1. Create and maintain relevant, progressive academic programming to meet future health service and health care career demands (University Goals - Enhance Academic Enterprise, Promote Student Success). 

2. Strengthen our clinical/health service programs (University Goals - Enhance Academic Enterprise, Promote Student Success).

3. Elevate our community engagement and research status (Increase Access, Opportunity, and Affordability).

4. Contribute positively to B-CU’s national recognition (Increase Institutional Visibility and Image).

5. Suffuse Health Equity, Aging and Lifespan Health, and Health Policy and Advocacy into academic programs (Enhance Academic Enterprise through collaborative efforts that promote Student Success.)

Student Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to:

1. Uphold and model the core values of Bethune-Cookman University. These values are faith, integrity, respect, service, and thirst for knowledge.

2. Apply the principles of ethics to interactions with others, care of patients and clients, academic pursuits, research endeavors, and expression of thought.

3. Display and model professionalism in all of their career, community, personal, and institutional relationships. Engage in inter-professional and interdisciplinary endeavors to strengthen and augment your knowledge, skill,

and attitudes.

4. Demonstrate competence at the highest level (excellence) in your chosen health profession, academic studies, community service, clinical and field experiences, and public speaking.

5. Represent Bethune-Cookman University positively in all of their internship/practicum, clinical rotation, employment, and community interactions.

Graduation Requirements

All students are required to earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher for all courses required to complete their program. For course credit toward graduation in a major area, students must earn at least a “C” grade. A minor shall consist of 18 Semester Hours, and the grade “C” (2.0) or better for all classes taken toward the minor must be earned. A student must complete a minimum of six credits of coursework exclusive to the minor.
