Master of Athletic Training

The Master’s in Athletic Training is designed as a professional degree for persons entering the field of athletic training. The degree is designed to prepare individuals for positions as athletic trainers in a variety of employment settings. The program integrates didactic and clinical experiences to promote critical thinking, psychomotor skill, professional decision making, and collaboration to prepare students to serve as professionals in the field of athletic training.

The Bethune-Cookman Athletic Training faculty is dedicated educators and professionals with all appropriate credentials. In addition to the faculty, a variety of certified athletic trainers and medical professionals serve as clinical instructors in a variety of employment settings, including collegiate athletics, public schools, orthopedic clinics, rehabilitation settings, and general medical facilities.

Additional Program Admissions Requirements


In addition to the General Graduate Entrance Criteria listed in the Admissions section of this catalog, the applicants for the MAT in Athletic Training must meet the following specific requirements:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • A minimum of 50 documented hours working, volunteering, or shadowing with a certified athletic trainer (ATC) prior to admission to the program. At least 30 of these hours must be in a traditional athletic training setting (college, high school or professional). 50 hours or more of Athletic Training job shadowing
  • GRE test scores
  • Interview with the MAT panel
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least one from faculty member
  • A written personal statement of educational goals
  • Pass a level II background check
  • All prerequisites passed with a minimum grade of “C”

Master of Athletic Training = 60 Credit Hours


Semester I Total = 7 Credit Hours


Semester II Total = 10 Credit Hours


Semester III Total = 14 Credit Hours


Semester IV Total = 9 Credit Hours


Semester V Total = 9 Credit Hours


Semester VI Total = 11 Credit Hours
