Mission Statement

Mission

The mission of the Office of Admissions is to recruit, admit, and serve an eligible, diverse student population regionally, nationally, and internationally. It embraces the University’s commitment to attaining the quality of students who are able to matriculate and graduate.

General Information

Bethune-Cookman University seeks to enroll graduate students with the potential and desire to further their career and intellectual development. Each applicant is evaluated individually based on their academic performance at the undergraduate level, professional experience, and demonstrated an interest in obtaining an advanced degree.

To be considered for admissions to a graduate program at Bethune-Cookman, the applicant must have satisfactorily completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and meet other program-specific requirements. 

General Graduate Admissions Requirements

Application - All students applying to B-CU Graduate Studies must submit the following:

1. A completed application for Graduate Studies
2. $50 non-refundable application fee
3. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or its equivalent
4. A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
5. GRE or other test scores may be required (check individual program)
6. Official copies of transcript(s) 
7. Letters of Recommendation
8. Resume or Curriculum Vitae
9. Entrance Essay or Personal Statement

International Non-English Speaker Applicants with a non-U.S. degree must submit:

1. TOEFL scores (550-paper; 213-computer; 79-Internet)
2. Evaluation of foreign transcript/credentials
3. A statement of personal financial resources and supporting documents

Additional Program Requirements:

Individual graduate programs may have additional and/or more rigorous requirements for admission. Applicants must check with their respective degree program department, listed in this catalog, for any specific or additional admissions requirements.

Application

 All students applying to B-CU Graduate Studies must submit the following:

• Personal Statement or Essay
• Letters of Recommendation
• Resume or CV
• GRE scores
• TOEFL scores where applicable
• A $50 non-refundable application fee

Upon completion of the initial application, additional supporting documentation may be required.

Application for admission is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree either from a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution. Students are admitted as either Degree Status students or as Non-Degree Seeking Status students.

Application Deadlines

*Note: The MAT program only admits one cohort per year, beginning in summer.

Provisional/Conditional Admission

Students may be admitted in a condition/provisional/ status by a graduate program upon satisfaction of requirements designated by that program.  Academic dismissal from the program will occur if there is a failure to satisfy those conditions by the specified date noted by the program.

Non-Degree Seeking Status

Students with a bachelor’s degree and a cumulative GPA of 2.75 may be admitted as non-degree seeking status students and earn up to 9 graduate credit hours that may be eligible for transfer into a B-CU graduate program. Students may enroll in up to 12 credits as a non-degree seeking student.  If the student then decides to apply and enter Degree Status within an academic program, said program can evaluate the transcript and accept those B-CU credits towards the degree.  This evaluation is at the discretion of the program faculty, Chair, and Dean.

A professional who applies as a non-degree student in a course offered for certification purposes only or for professional development can submit a college transcript with the baccalaureate degree posted or a copy of a professional license with an expiration date. Students seeking to enroll in classes as a non-degree status student must receive permission from the program in order to enroll in specific courses.

Readmission

A student who is dismissed from the program is able to reapply at a date no earlier than one year after the original dismissal unless the circumstances of the dismissal indicate a different waiting period or were so extreme as to have excluded the possibility of readmission.

A student who withdraws voluntarily and does not enroll for two or more semesters must reapply for admission.

To reapply, the former student should submit an application for readmission along with a $25 Readmission Application fee.

Transfer Applicants

The School of Graduate Studies at Bethune-Cookman University requires that the majority of credits necessary to complete a graduate degree are completed via coursework within the institution.  Students may, with the approval of their program faculty, Dean, and the Provost transfer credits from another college/university or from a B-CU program.

Please refer to the specific criteria for transfer credit (from another institution) by program below (all transfer credit is at the discretion of the program faculty, Chair, and Dean):

Master of Athletic Training

Students can transfer in up to nine (9) graduate credit hours from a CAATE accredited Master’s level program.

Master of Christian Ministry

Students can transfer in up to twelve (12) graduate credit hours.

Master of Counseling

Students can transfer in up to six (6) graduate credit hours.

Master of Criminal Justice Administration

Students can transfer in up to six (6) graduate credit hours.

Master of Exceptional Student Education

Students can transfer in up to six (6) graduate credit hours.

Master of Integrated Environmental Science

Students can transfer in up to six (6) graduate credit hours.

Master of Organizational Leadership

Students can transfer in up to six (6) graduate credit hours.

Master of Public Health

Students can transfer in up to twelve (12) graduate credit hours from a CEPH accredited MPH program.
