Mission and Vision Statements
Mission
Prepare public health professionals who aim to impact public health by addressing issues of health equity for all populations.
The foundational tenets of building an equity-informed public health workforce, engaging in effective policy-making, engaging in impactful research and providing relevant services guide educational efforts within the program. The vision, mission, and values of the program speak to the belief that health equity and by association, the elimination of health disparities, touches every one of the diverse fields within public health. It serves as an acknowledgment of the fact that in order to effectively address many of the issues or problems associated with achieving health equity, public health professionals from multiple fields along with stakeholders and experts from other professions often work side by side.
Vision
Every community will have optimal health through the achievement of health equity.
Program Overview
The Minor in Nutrition was created in 2016 and launched in Fall 2017. The program has presented nationally at the American Diabetes Association Annual Meeting and the Association of State and Public Health Nutritionists.
Admissions Requirements
Students seeking admission into a major program in the Department of Public Health must meet the admission requirements of Bethune-Cookman University as described in the Admissions and Enrollment Services section of this catalog.
Program Description
Undergraduate courses provide students with foundational knowledge in nutritional sciences, food studies, food systems, and population health. Students will examine food and nutrition practices and policies that affect sustainable diets and long-term health. The minor equals 18 total credits hours accrued in the designated courses.
Graduation Requirements
To have minor officially denoted student must successfully complete all 18 credits hours of designated courses and meet the graduation requirements for their undergraduate major and GPA.
