CMIN 550 - Preaching in the African-American Tradition

Credits: 3 Credit Hours
This course will explore and examine the particularities and uniqueness of the African-American preaching tradition.  Emphasis will be placed on the ways in which, historically and culturally, preaching is conducted in African-American churches.  Specifically, this course will focus on the use of language, metaphor, imagination, and responsible encounter with the Biblical text from an African American perspective.  Students will have the opportunity to preach at least once during the semester.
