Program Overview

The Department of Natural Sciences is composed of the programs in both biology and chemistry. We offer Bachelors of Science degrees in biology, chemistry, and chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry. We also offer minors in biology and chemistry. Students graduating from these programs go on to graduate school, professional school, or careers in research or basic science. The skills and knowledge obtained in the natural sciences are in high demand as they provide a strong background in the biological, chemical, and mathematical approaches utilized by the private and public sectors as well as academia and industry. For more information about the individual programs, please refer to their individual sections in the catalog. Students planning to enter graduate or professional schools are encouraged to participate in one of the ongoing research projects in the College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Educational Outcomes

Program Objectives

At least seven students will participate in active research and present, minimally, at the B-CU Academic Showcase
Improve and Maintain Teaching Laboratory Environment
Students presenting at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. 60% of students completing the degree program will have presented at a conference and/or have submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.
50% Faculty presenting at Discipline-specific conferences and development
Recruitment: Tracking views on departmental website and increasing number of students applying to the program.
50% of graduates will be employed in their discipline or accepted into professional schools
50% Passing rate in General Biology Courses through the use of Assistant Teaching Peer Mentor (ATP Mentor) program.
Maintain the Illumina MiSeqDX through service contracts and B) Equip our Sequencing instrumentation with proper materials and hire a technician to maintain it. and purchase reagents for the MiSeqDX
